Pelican by jayshree Pelican by jayshree
OK, I know the horizon is off. I don't know how he's straight and the horizon is so off, but I don't question these things. I took it with my camera leaning over the edge of the rock/jetty - not looking at anything. Just pressing the button. :) Anyways, I had been stalking this pelican and it was getting ready to fly off so I was just taking pics like crazy. I was also not happy because I had realized by this point that i was using the wrong lens on my camera, but the bigger one was in the car - kind of far away so I did the best I could with what I had. Anyways, its weird and funky so I like it. Hope you do too.

I think that the angle of the horizon adds interest. It's a good twist =)

I liked it. Just cuz it was so close. I was literally standing on the edge of the jetty, holding my camera out. Thanks for :+fav:ing it.

It looked awesome taking off. I have the shot, but everything isn't in focus so its not going up. :( Thanks for :+fav:ing it.

I have many of those, out of focus ones, most of which sadly get trashed. These birds are so goofy looking on the ground, so majestic in flight.

Yeah, I know how that goes. I trash a bunch of stuff. :( I felt so bad for this bird. I was stalking the crap out of it.

Thier shy bird too. When I was trying to shoot GUs the pelican. He'd keep turning his head away from the camera. Like "Oh my, he's taking my picture, Oh my." Finally got em though.

He was probably waiting for some money. Bet he would have turned around if you would have flashed some cash.

I like it. It's not perfect, but that's what I like about it. So many shots are just...perfect. No flaws. No errors. No life.

There are many great photographers out there than can take technically perfect shots that also manage to achieve a level of artistic quality that makes you catch your breath; and then there's everyone else. I say if you can't achieve that transcendence in perfection, don't be afraid to show that it has LIFE at least.

Thanks for being brave enough to post anyway, even with the flaws.

Lol. I love how I'm not one of those photographers that can take your breathe away. :lmao:

No, I'm not into perfect shots. I mean, if they happen, cool. If not, thats cool too. I'm very imperfect so my photos can be too. I don't mind. Thanks for your sweet comment. I appreciate it.

I hope I didn't offend or hurt your feelings; believe me, I'm in the "everyone else" category too...we can't all be an Adams or Golden, or even a Helms, Gallagher, or deBord.

I just meant don't fret the imperfections; our photos are slices of life, and life is as imperfect as can be. Sorry if I worded that badly...re-reading it, it sounded awful.

Lol. I was laughing so hard when I wrote it to you cuz I was like, they are a new watcher so they don't know my humor. Honey, it takes A LOT to offend me and you by far - didn't. Not even close. I know where I stand as a photographer and I know what I am and what I'm not. No worries. Sorry if you thought I was mad. I just have a very funny sarcastic humor.

Don't ever worry about giving me feedback. I like it. Good or bad. Thats why I'm here. Keep it coming. :glomp:

Quite an understatement that the horizon is off, but you could easily straighten it in Photoshop. On the other hand, it looks rather funky that way, as you say, and I kind of like it. Except I would probably crop a bit of the sky and the foreground too.

Using your telephoto lens would have made it a perfect shot. Never leave it in your car again Jen, and better luck next time ;)

I considered straightening it, but then the pelican would be off and since its technically the focus of the shot, I'd rather him be straight and the rest be off. Especially since the horizon is SO off, you can tell that its kind of intentional and not an oversight which drives me up the wall. lol. Although I am going to say, my eye keeps going to that horizon every time and it is bothering me. I cropped a bit of the foreground already and when I tried to crop more, I felt like I lost a lot. I'll look at the sky thing. I hadn't messed with that. Thank you.

And yeah, I forgot I had a little bag that would hold the other lens. I wasn't in the mood to carry around the whole camera bag. It sucks when you remember once you're too far. Thank you.
