Description

My first sunrise shot while in Yellowstone National Park, WY. My friend, =Glitch-Chaos had suggested this spot for sunrise and I’m so happy he did. This was actually the first shot I took when we arrived. This photo is of geothermals with lots and lots of steam coming up from them. We found a spot where we got warmed up by the steam on that nice chilly morning. So many more shots to go through from this whole excursion. I’m so happy with how these turned out.

Beautiful shot! Its uniform warmth suggests a parting of the small cloudscape within its foreground, lending admirably to its apparent status as a sunrise rather than a sunset (both of which I believe warrant very specialized post-processing). Its lack of obvious enhancements is similarly a strong asset; many photographers nowadays easily succumb to false-color images of moments such as these -- those that're defined by their natural appearances -- all the while unaware of what they've sacrificed. I'd suggest only that its crop be revised, as the relatively empty sky is consistently so and therefore needn't dominate half of the shot; the foreground could also stand to be brightened very slightly for the sake of better emphasizing the lovely silhouettes you've captured.
