I've always had this belief that a person's smile is one of the most beautiful things they can give someone in the world. I was at a fast food restaurant one day and I walked up to the counter and the guy looked up and gave me the most genuine smile I have ever seen in my life. He was a young guy, a little goofy looking with a chipped tooth, but that seriously had to be the most beautiful smile I had encountered so randomly. That happened many years ago and to this day, I can still picture his face. That guy changed my attitude from that moment on. I decided that when I'm out and about and I smile at someone or someone smiles at me, I will make sure to give them the most genuine smile I can. I have no clue what this guy's name is, where he's from or anything, but this chance encounter with a stranger, forever changed my view. Never doubt your ability to influence someone with a good random deed, or like in my case, with just a simple smile.

Of course, all my friends and watchers know that its been a week since I put my darling Jade to sleep. I can't believe its been a week. I still haven't stopped crying for her and I won't for awhile. Anyways, who could have known this contest would be happening right now. Seeing all these wonderful animals so happy in my journal everyday has been great. Your lovely comments and notes are helping a lot too. My one regret is that I don't have more pictures of my Jade. She was never a fan of the camera, but there are a few. Unfortunately they are all in my brother's gallery, not mine. So I will be doing a little feature of my baby. Some background on her though..... Jade and Jojo (Joey) came home from the Humane Society together May 31, 2002. We went to look for dogs several times but never found one till we found those two little gems. Since that day, they only ever spent 2 nights apart aside from this illness. You couldn't have 2 dogs with personalities that differ as much as those two. She was always my problem dog. She could find a way out of my yard no matter what we did to try to keep her in. We used extra fence, tires, cinder blocks, logs, cement - everything to make sure she couldn't get out of the fence, but she would move everything. She was a wild woman who refused to be tamed. (Like her momma) I've never in my life seen a dog who would actually strut. She would shake her butt like she was trying to make money. And if she liked you, as soon as you would come near her, she would throw herself on her back and have you rub her stomache. I taught her both of those moves too. ;) If she wanted your attention, she would jump on the door and bark. If you were yelling at her to be quiet, she would bark one last time cuz she had to have the last word no matter what. I couldn't keep a collar on my boy dog cause as soon as I put it on him, she would drag him all over the yard, trying to rip it off of him. And she always would eventually get it off of him. Bath time - forget it. We would have to hold her and as soon as we were done, she would run straight to the dirt and roll all over it and give us a dirty look. She would look at us like we had some nerve violating her that way. Then she wouldn't talk to us for the rest of the day. She was always so full of life. I guess thats why its so hard to imagine her gone. Anyways, here's to my baby. Love you Jade......

She is beautiful and so are you for loving her so much.
I was hoping you were going to do a memorial type thing for her, it's emotional but it's also a way to grieve in a constructive way and it allows us to have a connection with Jade as well, a good cry is what I needed tonight.
Thank you for sharing her story, she sounds like a little pill, they are the best, it's all about that personality. Here's to Jade, may she rest in peace.

Thanks Jen. I plan on making a little photo album of them both. It will be a family project kind of thing. She was a little pill. Her personality was wild and fun and carefree just like me. :) I guess that's why out of all the dogs in the pound, she's the one I picked. Although I will say, she did look innocent then. ;) Here's to both of us crying tonight dear......

Is there some tread left on those tires, or is it just like throwing a hot dog down the hallway? Family Guy
:icondocbevo:
I know how you feel! My girlfriend's family in Dallas had to have their boxer put to sleep about a year ago and they are still aching from it. A faithful dog (even the problem ones) are as close and as dear as any family member.

I remember when I use to foster cats that were FELV positive, when one of them would pass on, my oldest daughter and I would do a memorial page for them and we would post it up on what we called our "memorial wall" in our cat room. We would hang their little collars with their poster and then we painted their name in their food bowl (they all had their own special bowls ya know) and we made them into little wall plaques to also hang with their poster. I know this must make me sound like a crazy person but when dealing with FELV, the death rate is high and with my heart......well, this memorial stuff got me through it - all 12 times, it will help you too, so do what your heart wants to do, remember her.

Oh, and call me quick but you are also a Jen...cool. And you have been here forever, why can't I ever get those little Emoticon thingys to work right?

if she wouldn't have been a problem dog, i wouldn't have loved her as much. it was her fiery little personality that made me love her so much.

No wonder you miss her so much.
I'm sure she will be just the same when you meet up with her again at the rainbow bridge.

RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Thanks for sharing this story--it's the kind of thing that will keep me going when my dog goes--and it's likely almost 10 years off in the future! But this is so comforting.

Making a baby

The Smiths were unable to conceive children and decided to use a surrogate father to start their family. On the day the proxy father was to arrive, Mr. Smith kissed his wife goodbye and said, "Well, I'm off now. The man should be here soon." Half an hour later, just by chance, a door-to-door baby photographer happened to ring the doorbell, hoping to make a sale. "Good morning, Ma'am", he said, "I've come to..." "Oh, no need to explain," Mrs. Smith cut in, embarrassed, "I've been expecting you." "Have you really?" said the photographer. "Well, that's good. Did you know babies are my specialty?" "Well that's what my husband and I had hoped. Please come in and have a seat".

After a moment she asked, blushing, "Well, where do we start?" "Leave everything to me. I usually try two in the bathtub, one on the couch, and perhaps a couple on the bed. And sometimes the living room floor is fun. You can really spread out there." "Bathtub, living room floor? No wonder it didn't work out for Harry and me!" "Well, Ma'am, none of us can guarantee a good one every time. But if we try several different positions and I shoot from six or seven angles, I'm sure you'll be pleased with the results." "My, that's a lot!", gasped Mrs. Smith. "Ma'am, in my line of work a man has to take his time. I'd love to be in and out in five minutes, but I'm sure you'd be disappointed with that." "Don't I know it," said Mrs. Smith quietly. The photographer opened his briefcase and pulled out a portfolio of his baby pictures. "This was done on the top of a bus," he said. "Oh, my God!" Mrs. Smith exclaimed, grasping at her throat. "And these twins turned out exceptionally well -when you consider their mother was so difficult to work with." "She was difficult?" asked Mrs. Smith. "Yes, I'm afraid so. I finally had to take her to the park to get the job done right. People were crowding around four and five deep to get a good look" "Four and five deep?" said Mrs. Smith, her eyes wide with amazement. "Yes", the photographer replied. "And for more than three hours, too. The mother was constantly squealing and yelling - I could hardly concentrate, and when darkness approached I had to rush my shots. Finally, when the squirrels began nibbling on my equipment, I just had to pack it all in." Mrs. Smith leaned forward. "Do you mean they actually chewed on your, uh...equipment?" "It's true, Ma'am, yes.. Well, if you're ready, I'll set-up my tripod and we can get to work right away." "Tripod?"

"Oh yes, Ma'am. I need to use a tripod to rest my Canon on. It's much too big to be held in the hand very long."

Mrs. Smith fainted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL!

That's for all my photographer friends! I totally loved that! And now, here is a nice little story about an old lady.....

NO ENEMIES

Toward the end of Sunday service, the Minister asked, How many of you have forgiven your enemies? 80% held up their hands. The Minister then repeated his question. All responded this time, except one small, elderly lady. Mrs. Neely?'; Are you not willing to forgive your enemies? I don't have any. She replied, smiling sweetly. Mrs. Neely, that is very unusual. How old are you? Ninety-eight. she replied. Oh, Mrs. Neely, would you please come down in front & tell us all how a person can live ninety-eight years & not have an enemy in the world? The little sweetheart of a lady tottered down the aisle, faced the congregation, and said:

'I outlived the bitches.'

 Seriously, hilarious

I don't know why, but I never put anything in your shot box before, and I'm not sure what it's for, or what the character limit might be or even if there is one, or whether I can just keep typing for ever and ever and ever or if eventually I'll just run o
